Recommendation: Bill Sweeney, Staff Editor on the foreign/national desk at The New York Times
Kamal Singh Masuta is a talented, effective, and collegial professional who is knowledgeable and skillful in a wide range of digital and social media work. I had the pleasure of being Kamal’s manager for four years at the Committee to Protect Journalists, a nonprofit where innovative thinking was essential. He delivered every day, building the organization’s social media platforms from the ground up and transforming its digital operations.
Kamal managed numerous complex projects, including the development of the organization’s websites and databases, the migration to modern customer relationship and email blasting tools (Salesforce and Exact Target), and the oversight of its security and systems administration.
He hired and managed numerous vendors and freelancers with consistent success. Working at a nonprofit, Kamal understood the need to manage budgets closely and spend money effectively.
Kamal played a crucial, hands-on role as well — prolific and engaging on Twitter, Facebook and other social media; creative in producing web reports and designing print spinoffs; impactful in branding CPJ’s work in a consistent and compelling way; inventive in maintaining and enhancing multiple digital platforms.
He brings an exemplary attitude to work each day. Thoughtful, committed and collaborative, Kamal listens to and respects the views of his colleagues and responds to their needs with effective solutions. His professionalism and his mastery of a wide range of digital and social media work would make him a great asset to any organization.
Bill Sweeney, formerly the Editorial Director at the Committee to Protect Journalists, directly managed Kamal Singh Masuta.
